The Rev. John Spicer was born in Washington, D.C., son of a career Navy physician, and grandson of two Marine colonels. As a “Navy Junior” he lived in Washington D.C., St. Louis, Missouri, Charleston, South Carolina, Yokosuka, Japan, Coronado, California, and Roanoke, Virginia. He graduated from Washington and Lee University with a degree in English. After taking a year off after graduation he was made a Candidate for Holy Orders in the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia and earned his Master of Divinity Degree from the General Theological Seminary in New York in 1978. He was ordained deacon in 1978 and priest in 1979, and served as Episcopal Chaplain at Virginia Tech, Regional Director of the Mission Four Coalition in the Diocese of Western North Carolina, Rector of St. Thomas Church in Pittsburgh, Interim rector for Christ Church, Indiana PA, and St. Christopher’s in Warrendale, PA, and Vicar of All Saints’, Brighton Heights in the city of Pittsburgh. After 18 years in ministry in Pittsburgh he accepted the call to become Rector of St. Teresa Episcopal Church here in Wakulla . In 2007 most of the congregation of St. Teresa left the Episcopal Church (see “Our Story”) to form Christ Church Anglican with Fr. John as Rector. He has two grown sons, Nathan, 31 and Josh, 28. He enjoys reading, listening to music, playing with his three large dogs, jogging, kayaking, biking, and he is certified in technical scuba diving, especially cave diving (if you find a sinkhole, let him know).

The Reverend David Alford (aka Deacon Dave) was born and raised in Lake Wales, Florida. After graduating high school, he attended Florida State University where he met the love of his life, Melissa. After graduating with a bachelors degree in Criminology, he and Melissa were married and settled in the Tallahassee area. He has worked as a law enforcement officer since 2003. He has served on the vestry of Christ Church Anglican, as a Eucharistic minister, and as a lector. Starting in 2010, he began exploring God’s call on his life to the ordained ministry. In April of 2017, he was ordained a Deacon in the Gulf Atlantic Diocese by the Right Reverend Neil Lebhar. He serves as a Police Chaplain as well as a Deacon at Christ Church Anglican. His hobbies include watching his children Clara and Noah compete at their sports, watching movies, hiking, training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and traveling.
